Pilates
Mondays at 5:30-6:30pm (Please call to confirm)
"If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; if it is completely flexible at 60, you are young."
J H Pilates
The Pilates Academy International method, headquartered in New York City, is elaborated thorough the understanding of Anatomy combined with modifications to develop a Pilates Method that can work with everyone. A simple definition of Pilates is a system of non-impact exercises with a focus on the deep muscles of the abdomen and spinal column. The abdominal muscles become strengthened while the lower back is protected, which helps prevent injury and increases the health of the spine. When muscles become strengthened Pilates goes further to lengthen these muscles resulting in a long and lean physique. Perhaps most beneficial is the improvement in posture one finds when gravity is taken from the equation and muscles become balanced. The breath in Pilates is added to keep the movements flowing, and to reduce stress and tension so by the end of a session one feels energetic and not tired. Pilates is great for everyone from the pure beginner to the dedicated athlete.
Yoga
Tuesdays at 8:15-9:15am (Please call to confirm)
Yoga at Basics is not about accomplishing anything special or about perfection of poses or postural technique, and certainly not about turning yourself into a pretzel. It is not about how you look or any one way you are supposed to feel. You will be encouraged to start where you are, with an attitude of compassion and friendliness toward yourself, and to work at your own pace, usually with more ease than you are used to. All are welcome- those with shoulder pain, sore necks, arthritis. Come to relax and feel good.

OUR MEMBERS SAY
I like the quiet, positive atmosphere that I receive here. Most gyms do not take the time to personally greet their clients but Basics does. I am very pleased not only with the environment but also with the excellent workout I get daily with the help of the knowlegable staff. With each workout, I feel better about how I look and also have a more positive attitude. I am grateful to have Basics and will continue to attend as long as I am able.
