"If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; if it is completely flexible at 60, you are young."
- J H Pilates
A simple definition of Pilates is a system of non-impact exercises with a focus on the deep muscles of the abdomen and spinal column. The abdominal muscles become strengthened while the lower back is protected, which helps prevent injury and increases the health of the spine. When muscles become strengthened, Pilates goes further to lengthen these muscles resulting in a long and lean physique. Perhaps most beneficial, is the improvement in posture one finds when gravity is taken from the equation and muscles become balanced. The breath in Pilates is added to keep the movements flowing, and to reduce stress and tension, so by the end of a session one feels energetic. Pilates is great for everyone from the pure beginner to the dedicated athlete.
OUR MEMBERS SAY
I have belonged to many health clubs before and have never been able to stick to a program. I have been a regular at Basics for nine months, I don't know if it's the friendly staff, the cleanliness, or the ease of use with the equipment, but, whatever it is it works. I have lost 24 pounds and feel great!
