Pilates
"If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; if it is completely flexible at 60, you are young."
- J H Pilates
The Pilates Academy International method, headquartered in New York City, is elaborated thorough the understanding of Anatomy combined with modifications to develop a Pilates Method that can work with everyone. A simple definition of Pilates is a system of non-impact exercises with a focus on the deep muscles of the abdomen and spinal column. The abdominal muscles become strengthened while the lower back is protected, which helps prevent injury and increases the health of the spine. When muscles become strengthened Pilates goes further to lengthen these muscles resulting in a long and lean physique. Perhaps most beneficial is the improvement in posture one finds when gravity is taken from the equation and muscles become balanced. The breath in Pilates is added to keep the movements flowing, and to reduce stress and tension so by the end of a session one feels energetic and not tired. Pilates is great for everyone from the pure beginner to the dedicated athlete.
